April Fools' Day Food For Thought

I have long disliked the April Fools' Day designation for April 1st. To begin with, I don't think it's at all funny or jovial to lie to someone or to be trite about anyone's being a fool. An additional negative concerning this designation came to my attention as I was reading the preface to the Reese Chronological Bible that I've just begun reading. It has to do with a plausible origination of April Fool's Day as explanation is given about the dating of biblical events. Just some food for thought.

"Good men's opinions will vary on most things, and certainly do in the field of Bible Chronology. However, even with the variance of a few years in different dating patterns, basic chronological order of scripture is generally accepted. Klassen [whose dating system is used] believes Jesus was born April 1, 5 BC (not December 25). No one has ever satisfactorily accounted for the origin of "April Fools' Day." It is theory that, because of derision directed at our Lord and those who remembered His true birthday, it developed into a "Fools' Day.""
