Weekend Daybook

Outside my window... The big event for us this week was the solar eclipse on Monday. We weren't in totality, but it was a grand display of God's marvelous creation and how He has ordered the universe.

Praying for...
Friends in Houston who are going through Hurricane Harvey.

Thankful for...
In-Home Care services. We were able to link my parents up this week for help with meal preparation and freezer meals. So thankful for those with a compassionate heart who reach out to help others.

Noticing the sound of...
Military helicopters earlier in the week flying overhead. They sounded so very close to the house that I would not have been surprised if whatever I heard was about to hit the house. I stepped out onto the back porch and saw them flying by. Thankful for those who serve and protect.

Looking forward to...
Picking up a friend and attending a baby shower tomorrow. What a privilege God has given women to participate in His ongoing procreation of humankind! Miraculous and Awesome!

Learning...
To be grateful for opportunities to serve, whether there be joyous reception and appreciation or irritability, grumbling, and complaining from the one being served. I truly want to serve as though as I am serving Christ himself, to offer a cup of cool water as if to Him. For in that, there is eternal reward.

Pondering...
"You can live with joy even when things make you sad. Christian joy is not about avoiding life while dreaming about heaven. It is about taking an utterly honest look at all earthly life through heaven's lens. There we find real hope. " ~ Timothy S. Lane and Paul David Tripp in Heart of the Matter

Around the house...
A very busy week with doctors' appointments for most of us and shopping for a refrigerator with my parents, but today I did get the house freshened a bit for Sunday.

Brought a smile...
My 91-year-old dad breaking out in song after he purchased a new refrigerator with lots of freezer space that Mom fell in love with. :-)

In the kitchen...
After looking at new refrigerators, mine sure looks like it needs a good cleaning!

The fruit of my hands...
Gifting a baby quilt that I made to a new mommy. Fun colors for tummy time.

Reading...
An article in World Magazine entitled "Anti-Bullying Bait and Switch". If your child's public school has become a "Welcoming School," you might want to check into what that's all about. You can read the article here, or see other articles in World by clicking on the image.

Thinking...
That perversion has become a larger snowball than I ever would have thought possible this side of Gomorrah. Developing into a menacing avalanche.

Recommending ....

https://world.wng.org/

If you're like me, you try to get news from various angles. That means looking beyond the mainstream media. Recommending to you today World Magazine. Their mission statement:
To report, interpret, and illustrate the news in a timely, accurate, enjoyable, and arresting fashion from a perspective committed to the Bible as the inerrant Word of God.
It's that perspective that I especially look for. In addition to news articles, their Voices articles by a variety of writers give much food for thought, and their book reviews help direct me to further reading. I could do without their music and movie reviews, but I realize there are some who are still stuck in the muck of current culture.

We've subscribed to World for many years, going back to when our daughters were still at home. There are special issues just for children, which aids parents/teachers as they help their children sort through the chaos of the culture. World Magazine was a tremendous resource when we were homeschooling high school. It continues to be our go-to for a biblical perspective on our crazy world.

What Some Know, But Others Don't

"What believers know that unbelievers don't is that there is an unseen spiritual battle behind all activity under heaven."

For the Sake of the Children

http://www.worldmag.com/2015/03/the_kids_are_not_all_rightI hope you get your news from more than one perspective. There are some things that the liberal national news media just won't report, as most of us are aware. The leading article in the current World Magazine is an example--

"As the Supreme Court muses on same-sex marriage, men and women raised by gay parents speak out about emotional and behavioral problems"    ~ March 21, 2015

You can read the full article by clicking on the magazine cover.

Many of us as followers of Jesus Christ know why America now finds herself in such debauched, moral decay. In another article of the current issue of World, Andree Seu Peterson discusses the "acronym absurdity" of LGBT, and concludes the article with the truth of what is wrong in America.
"As for me, I will stick to plain old LGBT, "Let God be true though every one were a liar." And what God says that's true, and what some are liars about, is that when a nation doesn't consider the knowledge of Him worthwhile, He gives "them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done" (Romans 1:28). In this mental debasement, "their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another" (verses 26-27).

My LGBT means that even if I am the last person on earth who still believed what the Bible says about the proper use of our bodies, I will choose to believe God over every other word, theory, testimony, report, feeling, persuasive argument, and complicated theology."
~ Andree Seu Peterson, World Magazine March 21, 2015
Being given up on by God is serious, indeed. LGBT is a vortex, be it real-life or virtual, that keeps sucking others into it. We have some young friends who have been near the vortex and didn't escape its pull. How about your young people? Are they near the vortex--virtual or real-life? For the sake of the children, be watchful. Be informed.

And get some news from a biblical perspective, if you don't already--subscribe to World Magazine. We get ours in print form as well as digitally. It opens our eyes to a great many current news issues.
